Show and Tell: 1.30.08

SERIES: Show and Tell TALK: The theme was the best way to share Jesus is to show a changed life and then tell about it. STUDENT RESPONSE: AVERAGE, We didn't really do anything to be able to gauge the response, but I spoke with many students that were challenged to getting out of their comfort zone. LEADERSHIP: ABOVE AVERAGE, All the tribe leaders have indicated who is in their fab 5 and it's neat watching them have a focused ministry where they are pouring into 5 students every week, so far so good. MUSICAL WORSHIP: ABOVE AVERAGE, Tom our worship leader was out sick which led us to make a decision to either cancell our worship through music time or let our student team do it on their own. Of course we let them do it on their own, there is nothing better than to work with a team for a year and then release them to do what God has been equipping them to do. I was so proud of them. They all stepped out on faith and said yeah we'll do it. They didn't feel adequate, they didn't feel comfortable, they didn't feel worthy but they did feel God and that made all the difference. To say i was proud of them would be a huge understatement. They did great. Anytime we can get more students on stage and more adults off of it the better. ATTENDANCE: AVERAGE.

LA Rocks!

Tom (our worship pastor), Lauren (his girlfriend), and I just got back from a Passion gathering in Los Angeles. It was off the hook amazing. David Crowder, Matt Redman, Chris Tomlin, Louie Giglio, and Francis Chan all did phenomenal jobs. It was a much needed escape to simply cling to my Lord and Savior Jesus. We got to see my good friend and mentor Danny Furukawa and the Fu family. Pastor Fu is a campus pastor for Shepherd of the Hills Westside LA and we were able to go to their Sunday morning service as my old youth pastor and friend Kyle Wall was also in town. It was a great service, by far the most blended service I have ever been apart of. As we pulled in we saw a chauffeur drop off their "master" in their Bentley and as we walked in we saw poor and homeless people. What a beautiful picture. Rich and poor worshipping God together. I'm sure God smiled. Sunday night we were able to make it to cornerstone church, Francis Chan's church and the whole thing was very underwhelming, which is probably why I loved it so much. I have deep respect for Francis Chan and all they are doing at cornerstone. God is using them in mighty ways and it was neat to be there. Francis is the one next to that good looking guy. The other pic is about 4,000 of us worshipping God at the new Nokia Theatre downtown LA, across from the Staples Center.

God's faithfulness in 2008, 1.9.08 youth recap

SERIES: No Series. TALK: The theme was if we do what God tells us to do then the best is yet to come. The how was 3 fold. 1. Hear Him, 2. Trust Him, 3. Follow Him. STUDENT RESPONSE: ABOVE AVERAGE, with the new year upon us God led me into a gospel presentation and alter call where we handed out 20 bibles, had 12 first time professions of faith, and 4 baptisms. After taking 2 weeks off due to Christmas I was reminded quickly why i love my job. LEADERSHIP: ABOVE AVERAGE, The leadership seems to be on auto pilot, they are just consistently great. The neat thing about last night was we have a potentially new leader whose ministry would be all about prayer and praying for us. Well she started last night and I don't imagine all the good things happening without that ministry. MUSICAL WORSHIP: ABOVE AVERAGE, Marissa, one of the student female signers, shared a bit on what God is bringing her through. It's always great hearing students proclaim God's goodness. Then we had an audible with the band and I brought them back up without warning to do another song that I felt God was leading us to. It went great but probably freaked out the praise team. They did a good job as always. ATTENDANCE: AVERAGE. It was a great night just to see all that God is doing in Deltona and to know He wants to do even greater things. Last night we were blessed.

Lots of info

Well it's been a while since I blogged. I'll catch you up as quick as possible:
  1. December 13th my grandmother went to be with the Lord. I'll have a separate blog soon about this, but for now just know she rocked.
  2. December 19th the student ministry threw a surprise birthday party for Jesus that was off the hook. We ended up raising $960 for a family we adopted for Christmas.
  3. December 22: TJ's birthday
  4. December 22-31st: ran around to a ton of Christmas parties. I love being this close to family and seeing everyone. The kids got spoiled and are probably going to hate santa since he doesn't bring as many presents as the grandparents.
  5. December 25th: the best Christmas ever. it was our first year staying at home all day and we loved it. Not that we didn't want to see others but to just sit and relax with our family was so great. We got a Wii for Christmas, best game system ever.
  6. December 28th-Jan 6 had tons of people over playing wii mostly mario party, good stuff.
  7. January 4th- riley's last baseball game. he had a great season and at the last game hit the ball without the tee, i pitched. it was great.

Looking forward to getting back to worship services with the students. hope you all had a great Christmas and happy new year. God Bless.
